How is International Management Course’s curriculum designed?

Why do you have “Business Ethics” in your core course?

We believe sound ethical foundation is indispensable for professional business persons in our age. We do teach you how to be competitive, but at the same time, we emphasize how to act ethically so that you could be an influential and respected business person after your graduation. Our school motto, “Mastery for Service,” is very well represented in our business education.

What are the differences between core / basic / advanced classes?

Core classes are designed to provide you the foundation for your basic business literacy, while basic classes provide foundation for your specialty. Building on these foundations, you will enhance your specialty by taking advanced classes.

What types of majors are available?

You could select your major from 5 choices; Management, Marketing, Finance, Family Business Management and Global Public Management.

When do you have classes?

We have classes mainly during daytime, on Monday through Friday.

How is your class year composed of?

We have 4 quarters a year.

When does a new school year start?

Our school year starts from September for students entering at the fall intake, and from April for students entering at the spring intake.

Can we get MBA within one year?

Depending on your professional experiences, you may be permitted to finish all the required courses in one and a half years and get MBA.

How long do I need to study to earn MBA?

Our standard course requirement is 2 years. Depending on your professional experiences, early graduation in 1.5 year may be permitted.

What types of learning experiences are available at International Management Course?

Are there any opportunities to study with well-experienced practitioners?

You can take classes offered at Corporate Strategy Course, which is another of our MBA course designed for mid-senior experienced practitioners. Their classes are offered on evenings of week-days and on weekend, in Japanese.

How can I deepen my specialty?

You will have an opportunity to work very closely with one of our faculty members of your choice, in order to thoroughly study specific business topic of your interest. We call this program “Individual Research.” With the completion of a detailed study, you will finish an equivalent of master’s thesis in your latter half of second year.

How can I enhance my skills to closely work with my colleagues in competitive as well as cooperative manner?

You will have a lot of opportunities to closely work with your classmates either in class preparation or in course projects. The co-working relationship among students is quite cooperative, and you will enjoy substantial mutual co-teaching experiences at International Management Course.

How big is the average class size?

Most classes are from 3 to 6 students. Consequently, the interactions between students and professors, as well as among students are quite intensive.

What is the student composition in terms of age?

Most of our students are in their mid-late 20’s. Students over 30 compose of roughly 15% of our total students.

What is the student composition in terms of nationality?

Roughly 80% of our students are international students, while the rest is Japanese. The origin of international students is quite globally diverse, including Asia, Middle-East, Europe, Africa, South Pacific, and the Americas.

What is academics / practitioners ratio of International Management Course’s faculty members?

Roughly half of our faculty members have distinguished academic records. The rest of them joined our faculty from various industries and functionalities with substantial professional experiences. You could learn from very well balanced mix of academics and practitioners at International Management Course.

How could I benefit in job hunting by joining International Management Course?

Is it possible to gain job offers in Japan after graduation?

It is possible to receive job offers in Japan. However, these job offers are often dependent on your level of fluency in the Japanese language.

What does International Management Course’s job placement results look like?

Most of our students gain job offers at highly praised global firms in hi-tech, financial, and healthcare industries. Traditional Japanese firms are also major employers for our students.

What type of students supports are available?

What should I do when I have some requests to improve my learning life at International Management Course?

We have by-annual discussion meetings where students, teachers, and support staff discuss how to improve your learning life at International Management Course. You could discuss various issues of your interests there with your classmates, faculty members, and support staff.

Are there any job search supports available for me?

Our university provides job search supports to all its students. The service includes hiring information, career seminars, and individual consultation.

Who could support me when I have difficulty in course selection, course registration, or getting settled in the new school life in Japan?

We assign second year students as Teaching Assistants, who could provide various supports for international students.

What should I do when I have to directly consult with professors?

Each professor designates regular office hours available for individual consultation. You could discuss variety of topics with them, including course work, career design, and job hunting.

Is scholarship available for students with financial difficulties?

We have several scholarship programs available for those students who need financial supports. Most current students are supported by some type of scholarship.

What should I do if I’m not sufficiently confident with my English fluency?

Although we require the basic English fluency at the time of application, you also have many opportunities to improve your English after enrollment. We have such classes as “English Communication” or “Advanced English for Business Practice” where you could learn to communicate in English. Obviously, everyday class should be another quite effective training ground for you.

What type of exams do we have for entrance exam?

It depends on which exam pattern you are qualified for. If you are overseas resident (irrespective of nationality) you will not have any entrance exams. We review materials in your application packet and make acceptance decision (the pattern B). If you are domestic resident (irrespective of nationality) you will have both written exams and an oral interview in addition to application packet materials review (the Pattern A). These exams primarily evaluate your level of maturity as a potential business person, logical thinking capacity, as well as basic fluency in English. What can I do if my major in the undergraduate study does not have anything to do with business? Is it still possible to get accepted?

Educational backgrounds of our current students are quite diverse, including literature or science & technology. It indicates that we are not looking for only applicants with business literacy. We are looking for applicants with well-thought career vision, strong aspiration for higher learning, and distinct achievements in your undergraduate major, no matter from which disciplines you come.

What type of educational or professional background is necessary to be accepted?

We do not require any specific background or experiences from potential applicants. We do require that you have substantial interests in business or managing organization. Well-thought career vision, strong aspiration for higher learning, and distinct achievements in your undergraduate major are also very much appreciated.
